Guardian Program

Guardian Homes

At Bayshore Doodles, we utilize carefully selected guardian homes to grow our program. This allows us to ensure that every dog we add to our program is raised in a loving pet-home environment, receiving the one-on-one care and attention they deserve. Each dog is a beloved pet first and a breeding dog second.

Simply put, we could not ethically grow our program while keeping all of our dogs in our own home—our couch just isn’t big enough!

All jokes aside, we understand the time and energy that every dog and puppy deserves. Therefore, we keep only three permanent dogs in our home. Every other dog in our program lives with a guardian family. This approach allows us to provide proper time, attention, love, and care to our litters of puppies, visiting guardian dogs, our permanent dogs, and, of course, our human children.

We truly adore every family that has partnered with us. We are incredibly grateful for their trust and their decision to work with us. Without them, we would not be able to continue bringing more of these amazing dogs into the world. Together, we’ve become one big Bayshore Doodle family!

Below is additional information about our guardian home program. However, please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.

Guardian homes receive a breeding-quality puppy or dog at no cost in exchange for partnering with our program. While we remain the legal owner of the dog until the terms of the contract are fulfilled, the dog lives full-time with—and is loved and cared for by—the guardian family.

For female dogs, the contract includes a maximum of four litters.

For male dogs, the contract term is up to six years.

We cover all breeding-related and health testing expenses. Guardian families are responsible for general care, just as they would be for their own pet. This includes, but is not limited to, routine veterinary care, monthly preventatives, grooming, food, toys, and treats.

Once the dog has completed its breeding career with us, we cover the cost of spaying or neutering and transfer full ownership to the guardian family.

Puppies placed in guardian homes will undergo genetic testing, OFA evaluations, and temperament assessments as they mature. If they meet all required clearances, they will officially join our breeding program!

Males may begin stud services as early as 10 months of age, while females are typically around 2 years old before having their first litter.

Male dogs are only needed for short periods to complete their stud services. Female dogs, once mature and in heat, are bred and then returned to their guardian family. About one week before their due date, they come to our home to settle in and have their puppies. They remain with us until the puppies are fully weaned, typically around 7 weeks of age.

We encourage guardian families of females to visit their dog and her puppies during this time, or to take the opportunity to travel with peace of mind knowing their dog is in the best possible care.
